Laminate is a popular type of flooring that has been satisfying both homeowners and building owners alike. However, it also needs some extra TLC just like any other floor types. For one, laminate flooring can also be prone to stains and damage especially when not cleaned and maintained regularly.
If you want to maintain your flooring and ensure its longer lifespan, it is important to clean your laminate flooring on a regular basis. Here are some easy tips on cleaning your laminate flooring and make it always looking like brand-new.
- Sweep the floor regularly.
It may be most often taken for granted, but simply sweeping the floor can make a difference on your flooring’s lifespan. For one thing, dirt, debris, and even loose hair strands can cause scratches on your floor and damage it over time. You can also use a dry dust mop or a vacuum with a soft brush (standard brush attachments are a no-no) to clean your laminate flooring, ideally every few days or so.
- Clean floor spills ASAP.
Never let any spills and stains sit on the floor for too long, unless you want to damage your laminate flooring for good. You can use a damp cloth or sponge in removing floor stains. Instead of vigorously rubbing the sponge or cloth on the stain, gently dab it instead until the stain is gone. After cleaning the floor, make sure to dry the floor to prevent water staining.
- Use a gentle soap to mop the floor.
Add around 4 liters of warm water and 2 tablespoons of baby shampoo or gentle liquid detergent. If you use the latter, make sure that it is unscented and dye-free. Mix until bubbles appear. Using a clean mop or microfiber cloth, wipe the floor starting from one side to another until you cover the entire floor. Make sure to dry the floor using a dry mop or cloth to avoid water staining.
- Use these simple hacks to remove different stains.
For blood stains, spray a small amount of window cleaner directly on the floor stain and wipe using a warm and damp cloth.
For sticky chewing gums, use a plastic knife to scrape it then rub off the remnants using a damp cloth.
For ink, sodas, and crayon marks, use a damp microfiber cloth and perhaps mineral spirits to remove the stains.
For grease stains, use an ice pack or any frozen packs and put it directly on the area until the grease is hard enough to be scraped using a plastic knife.
These are some of the simple floor care hacks you can follow so you can make sure your laminate flooring will be in its best condition for as long.
