Having nice-looking and durable hard flooring surfaces can truly make a difference in your property, but maintaining it is another story. Depending on the flooring material, it may require different methods to clean and maintain it. For example, how you will clean a wood flooring should be different as to when you are cleaning a porcelain flooring material.
On the contrary, some homeowners apply the same cleaning process to all types of flooring. While it can save time, effort, and money to clean and maintain your flooring, it may cause potential damage on your flooring in the long run. That is why it is important to follow these tips in cleaning different types of flooring.
For ceramic tiles, vacuum or sweep the floor first before cleaning the tiles. Use a micro fiber dust mop or cloth to remove debris on the floor. Make sure that the mop or dust cloth you will use has been cleaned from its last cleaning use. Otherwise, dirt from the uncleaned mop or cloth will just transfer on the floor.
Next, fill a bucket with one part white vinegar and two parts warm water and then clean the ceramic floor with the solution. Make sure to rinse the mop after a few swipes, rinse well from accumulated dirt, and clean the floor using the water and vinegar solution.
For hardwood tiles, start by sweeping the floor first of any debris. Vacuuming a wooden floor can cause scratches onto its surface, hence it is not recommended. After sweeping the floor, add any two tea bags into boiling water and let it steep for a few minutes before removing the bags.
Let the tea solution cool down a little bit before cleaning the floor with it using a micro fiber cloth or mop. Pour a small amount of tea solution on the floor and then swipe it with the mop or cloth.
For vinyl floors, start by sweeping the floor with any dirt and debris. For finer dirt, use a microfiber cloth for a more meticulous cleaning. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to clean your floor, as vinyl is durable and won’t cause scratches unlike ceramic tiles.
After sweeping or vacuuming the floor, prepare a store-bought cleaning solution and use it to clean your vinyl flooring. You can also make your own cleaning solution by mixing one part borax and two parts warm water, or a cup of white vinegar for every gallon of water. Dip your cloth or mop into the bucket with cleaning solution and clean the floor as intended.
