Given the wide assortment of flooring choices in the market, choosing one that will suit your requirements best can be challenging to say the least. For one, every flooring has its own pros and cons depending on where you are located. Budget is another thing – as much as possible, good flooring should not be too expensive.
On one hand, you can never go wrong with the classic types of flooring. On the other hand, there are new flooring choices you can choose for your own home. With that said, here are some of the common floor coverings you can choose depending on your preference, requirement, and budget.
First on the list is wood flooring – the classic, all-around, wood flooring. Under wood flooring includes engineered and laminate wood. The former is similar to solid wood, comprised of layers of cross-layered and bonded wood. The latter, on the other hand, is made of layers of synthetic or recycled products such as resin or wood chips that are made to look like real wood or even stone. These types of wood flooring are generally easy to install and maintain.
Next on the list is stone flooring, which is available in different sizes and designs. Among common types of natural stone include granite (said to be the most resistant of the lot), slate (non-slip and does not fade easily), and marble (porous and stain-resistant).
However, stone tiles can suit any type of usage depending on its finish. For example, a high-sheen stone tile finishing may not be suitable for high foot traffic areas such as the kitchen and hallways. Instead, stone flooring with matted finish may be more appropriate in these specific areas.
Ceramic tiles, on the other hand, also come in different designs and sizes and can be suitable in any area of your house. It is durable and easy to maintain and clean, and has further increased in popularity when in-floor heating systems were introduced. Ceramic tiles are made to look like different stone flooring such as slate and marble.
Carpet is another popular flooring material for the longest time. Wool is a popular carpet material, but other materials are now being used as well such as nylon and synthetic fiber. Likewise, most carpets nowadays are stain-resistant and protected against static. Nonetheless, carpets provide elegance in any room for an affordable price.
Lastly, linoleum and vinyl are floor coverings worth considering. These materials are often used in homes through the years because it’s easy to clean and maintain and durable as well. Likewise, the market in linoleum and vinyl floorings has grown over the years thanks to their wide assortment of choices of design, texture, and the like.
