Most of us are excited with the upcoming holidays – a time of celebrating the essence of the season, bonding over hot and delicious meals, and of course spending time with loved ones. Just hearing Christmas songs all around you, there’s no denying that Christmas is indeed just around the corner.
While you are looking forward to gather your friends and other relatives in your humble home, it can also mean that your flooring will have to endure all the spills and high foot traffic. Unless you don’t want to damage your flooring, you can just relocate your family gathering elsewhere if you want. On the other hand, you can follow these tips to minimize flooring damage before the holiday peak season comes:
- Put a door mat outside your door.
We all know how dirt and debris can damage flooring especially if you have the habit of bringing your dirty shoes inside. Doing so not only can cause making your flooring dirty but also dull its finishing, leaving your floor more prone to damage. That is why it is important to place a door mat outside the door to wipe your shoes off before entering the house, or much better if you wear house slippers and leave your shoes outside.
- Add felt pads.
If you want to protect your flooring more effectively, you can add felt pads to serve as a barrier under the feet of the table, chairs, and your other furniture. Felt pads can also help prevent scratching the floor especially if you move furniture around.
- Clean any dirt, spills and debris off the floor immediately.
As they say, it is best to “clean up before the build-up”. If you want to keep your flooring in tiptop condition all year round, don’t wait before the floors are already dirty before cleaning it up. Make it a household habit to clean and vacuum your floor regularly to help it looking like new and lessen its risk of damage. If an accidental liquid spill occurs, make sure to clean it up immediately to prevent it from permanently marking the floor.
- Invest in mats, runners, and rugs.
As mentioned earlier, it is recommended to put a doormat or a rug outside the door to lessen the risk of dirt and debris from entering your house flooring. Likewise, it is recommended to put rugs and mats in high traffic and humid areas such as the kitchen, bath, and laundry area not only to prevent accidental slips but also to wipe off dirt immediately.
The above tips will help you keep your beloved flooring in optimal condition before the holidays, and stay that way any time of the year!
